VIA Rail operates trains in all regions of Canada over a network spanning the country from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and from the Great Lakes to Hudson Bay. To travel to and from Atlantic Canada, the Ocean (Montréal - Halifax) provides an overnight train experience six times a week. You will cover hundreds of kilometers while sleeping soundly and you'll wake up in a completely different part of Canada! “It was nice to wake up this morning and think "I wonder where I am now?" then roll up the shades (yeah, this train has shades!) and see the Atlantic landscape out the window.” The Ocean leaves Montréal in the evening and travels through the small villages on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River before entering the Matapédia Valley. By early morning, you'll see Chaleur Bay. From there, the train heads south across New Brunswick, and then continues on to Nova Scotia to arrive at Halifax mid-afternoon. In the other direction, the Ocean leaves Halifax in the afternoon to reach Montréal the next morning.
